An InsiderAdvantage survey of 500 Georgians conducted February 2-3 indicates that when it comes to the supposed economic recovery, few Georgians are feeling like they are a part of it.

When asked, “What is your opinion of the current economy in Georgia as it relates to you and your family?,” the responses were:

“It is improving”: 20%
“It is about the same as last year”: 50%
“It is worse than last year”: 24%
“Undecided”: 6%

The poll is in line with many national surveys that suggest many Americans aren’t thrilled with the economy.

InsiderAdvantage CEO Matt Towery: “This comes as no big shock. But what is surprising is that Republican and independent respondents to the survey are less thrilled than Democrats with the economy as it relates to themselves and their families. Only 13% of Republicans said the economy in Georgia is improving. And nearly 28% of GOP respondents said the economy as it relates to them is worse than this time last year.

“Independents were not far behind in the gloom category, with only 16% saying the economy is improving and 26% saying it is worse.

“The good news came from Democrats. Thirty-four percent said things have improved.

“Also, watch this year for voters in the age group 45-64. They seem to be the angriest demographic in many of the surveys we have taken. Sure enough, they lead all age groups for declaring the economy is worse, at 30%,”said Towery.

Survey conducted online; 500 random statewide respondents; weighted for age, race, gender and political affiliation. Margin of error plus or minus 4.3% Confidence level 95%.

In 2012 InsiderAdvantage initiated its first online scientific survey. The firm conducts polls both by telephone and online, with results that usually match within the margin of error.
