Kemp signs bills supporting law enforcement

It’s that time of year when bills passed during the legislative session become law with the stroke of a pen. Wednesday, following the annual Public Safety Memorial Ceremony at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center, Gov. Brian Kemp – alongside First Lady Marty Kemp, members of the General Assembly, public safety leaders, and law enforcement professionals from across the state – signed multiple bills into law that he says will strengthen public safety and support law enforcement in Georgia.

Date set for special election to fill seat of late U.S. Rep. David Scott

Longtime U.S. Rep. David Scott passed away on April 22nd in the midst of a reelection campaign, triggering a tricky special election to fill his seat through the end of the year.  That race, it was announced today by Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, will take place on Monday, June 29, with qualifying set to begin next week. A runoff, if needed, has been set for August 26th.

Lt. gov pushes to end veteran homelessness

Georgia Lt. Governor Burt Jones says he is committed to ending homelessness among the state’s veterans. On Monday Jones wrote a letter to President Donald Trump, Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins, and HUD Secretary Scott Turner in support of “Mighty Hero Homes’ mission to end Veteran homelessness.”

Could Paramount be coming to Georgia?

Paramount Skydance, one of the biggest and most prominent entertainment companies in the world, is furious at its home state of California over a lawsuit filed by the state’s attorney general attempting to stop a merger.  In response, Chair David Ellison has threatened to move from Los Angeles to a state not actively suing his company, and Georgia was on the shortlist of possibilities.  Gov. Brian Kemp welcomed the speculation at a luncheon Monday (and took a jab at California Gov. Gavin Newsom), and while it’s a longshot the mere possibility of luring Paramount has Georgia RISING…
