Savannah airport gets new aviation safety training tool

The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) is getting an upgrade that officials say will increase safety, reduce delays and modernize air travel. U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter, R-GA, announced recently that the Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded $7.6 million to replace the current air traffic control training system at the airport. The funding is part of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act of 2024.

$10 million federal funds for aviation safety at Atlanta Regional Airport

Efforts by U.S Rep. Brian Jack, R-GA, resulted in a major investment in aviation safety at Peachtree City’s Atlanta Regional Airport, also known as Falcon Field. Jack visited his hometown late last week to announce that the Federal Aviation Administration will be investing $9,925,000 for a new air traffic control tower, which is expected to become operational in 2028.

Study Committee studying synthetic drugs holds first meeting

A committee tasked with evaluating the impact of kratom products on minors and finding ways to strengthen protections, reduce access and create healthier outcomes for Georgia’s youth held its first meeting recently. The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Youth Exposure to Kratom and Retail-Available Substances heard from several clinical and medical professionals, scholars and university faculty during the initial meeting.

Atlanta, Fulton Co. square off in tax fight

The City of Atlanta has long used tax allocation districts (TADs) as an economic development tool, leveraging property tax increases to pay for local infrastructure projects.  But the Fulton County Commission has slammed on the brakes, voting 4-1 to reject a proposed 30-year extension of Atlanta’s TADs.  That sets up a major budgetary clash, as the Fulton TADs would be expected to generate over a billion dollars over that period.  Now the county will vote on TADs on a case by case basis, with stricter oversight and enforcement, leaving Atlanta’s money faucet DRIFTING…
