Rep. Mike Collins co-sponsors official English bill
U.S. Rep. Mike Collins, a candidate for the Georgia Republican Party’s U.S. Senate nomination, yesterday signed on as the 19th cosponsor of H.R. 1772, a bill that codifies official English as the nation’s language of government operations. Other Georgia co-sponsors are Republican Reps. Brian Jack, Rich McCormick, Barry Loudermilk and Clay Fuller.
Agenda for special session grows
The agenda for lawmakers coming back to the Capitol for a special session in a few weeks just got busier. The special session agenda initially included two items for consideration by legislators, but will now include three more issues when they reconvene on June 17.
Education bills moving through the legislature
Only days after Speaker Jon Burns, R-Newington, and Rep. Chris Erwin, R-Homer, introduced the Georgia Early Literacy Act, a House Education subcommittee gave unanimous approval to the bill – sending it to the full House Education Committee for consideration later this week.
Senate committee passes Burt Jones-backed tax reform legislation
The Senate is moving forward on tax reform. Members of the Senate Finance Committee passed four tax bills Monday – including two much-anticipated tax cut proposals sponsored by Sen. Blake Tillery, R-Vidalia that are unanimously backed by the Senate Republican Caucus. According to Tillery the bills will provide “real tax relief “and position Georgia to fully eliminate the state income tax over the coming years.
