While Georgia lawmakers and key educational stakeholders are working to battle literacy on the homefront, U.S. Rep. Lucy McBath, D-GA, is taking a key role at the federal level. The Georgia Congresswoman led the House introduction of the bipartisan and bicameral Reading Excellence and Achievement for Development (READ) Act, legislation which will address America’s literacy crisis using evidence-based reading instruction known as the Science of Reading.

Georgia’s ‘Path2College 529 Plan improvements take effect
Gov. Brian Kemp says Georgia is making it easier for parents to save for their child’s college tuition through two major enhancements to Georgia’s Path2College 529 Plan. Kemp signed Senate Bill 556 into law in May — which raises the maximum account balance for Path2College 529 Plan accounts from $235,000 to $550,000.

Following numerous reports of voter registration mailers being sent to deceased Georgians, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced he is conducting an investigation into Ready to Register and other third-party organizations that mailed solicitations to deceased, and otherwise ineligible, individuals across Georgia.
