Lawmakers working to reach consensus on budget with two days left
There are two days left in the 2026 legislative session, and lawmakers are still working on the FY2027 budget. The House and Senate have each passed their own versions of the budget, but have not yet reached an agreement. House and Senate leaders are now in conference committee trying to work out a deal before Thursday’s Sine Die (the last day of the session).

New committee will examine eliminating state income tax
Lt. Governor and gubernatorial candidate Burt Jones has made it clear that he wants to do away with Georgia’s state income tax. Thursday, he announced the creation of the Georgia Senate Committee on Eliminating Georgia’s Income Tax as “a vital step in that direction.”
National Defense Authorization Act moves out of committee
U.S. Rep. Austin Scott (R-GA 8), a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, announced the passage of the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) out of committee by a vote of 55-2.
