It goes without saying that the Republican message is mostly likely heard through the talk radio shows and Fox News. Hannity is on the radio daily and has a night-time show on Fox. Limbaugh is still heard on hundreds of radio stations daily, more than any other radio show ever! Fox news has two million eyeballs on it at any given time during the day and a few more in the evening hours with the likes of Bill O’Reilly, Greta and Megan! First names work because all conservatives are tuning in to Fox.
My question is this…is anybody else listening and watching? Are the conservative talk shows getting through to the independents? After all the independents are the ones that make the difference right? In almost every poll taken at any level the single biggest segment of the poll is the undecided portion. These are the voters who wait to make up their minds until close to the end of the election cycle. They wait to hear from everyone and then they cast their vote for the “person” they think will be the best for the job. Independents are very proud when they say things like “I vote for the person, not the party.” When I hear this and see the polling breakdowns I have to ask myself “Is the conservative message getting out to the undecided voters or are we in a circular discussion with only other conservatives and WE all agree so we must be winning…right? This past presidential election leads me to believe that our message is coming across at a level that may seem shrill at best and predictable at least. Even strong conservatives I talk to are asking for a different messenger.
Don’t get me wrong I listen to those mentioned above…some. I watch Fox News a little. I think the new show called “The Five” is great but predictable. Again I ask you “Is the conservative message getting heard by those who are in the middle.” Maybe the talking heads should take a few minutes and turn out from the circular discussion and see if there is anyone listening? Or is it possible that the fat paychecks these folks get are more important than the message getting through. After-all the ratings would suggest a high level of success but the elections don’t.
Maybe it’s time for some new blood in the conservative messaging department. We as conservatives are in a fight with an administration in Washington hoping to grow government to a level that is clearly socialism. The spending and debt coming out of Washington are turning us into a mirror image of the European Union, but the Fox News Channel keeps right on piling up those great ratings.
I believe that unless we change course we are headed for an America that those of us with some gray in our hair will not recognize in ten years, maybe less. So if the conservative talk shows are doing so great why are we struggling to get a conservative majority back in Washington?
Think about it…
