Following an investigative report by 11 Alive News last week, the City of Atlanta Ethics Office has officially opened an investigation into the alleged misuse of taxpayer money by Atlanta City Councilman Michael Julian Bond.  The complaints stem from a recent trip to Washington D.C. where Bond attended a family reunion on the taxpayer’s dime, as well as on gifts bought for a high school reunion and hours worth of math tutoring here in Atlanta.

Bond, the son of civil rights leader Julian Bond, was notified this week that he would be the target of an investigation by the city’s ethics department.

The Atlanta Ethics Office is separate from the State Ethics Commission, which has been under fire recently for misconduct surrounding charges leveled against Governor Nathan Deal.  Its head officer, Nina Hickson, along with several members of the commission’s seven member board, saw the report and decided to take further action regarding the matter.
