The superstorm of ’93. The tornadoes of ’08. The snowpocalypse of ’14. Here in Georgia we tend to remember when mother nature comes a-knocking. Sure, Florida has its hurricanes and California has its earthquakes. Oklahoma has monster tornadoes and Colorado has wildfires. But those people are used to that sort of stuff right? When Georgia gets hit, we get hit hard. Ice storms and floods, tornadoes and hurricanes, we might not have it as rough as some of these other states, but we get a lot of action and we’re not the best at dealing with it.
At least, that’s the conventional line of thought.
In reality though, Georgia is among the safest states in the U.S. when it comes to natural disasters – its temperate climate keeping snow and ice to a minimum, its hills preventing tornadoes, and its retracted coastline making it difficult for hurricanes to land.
Georgia has been one of the country’s fastest growing states since the early 90’s, and it should come as no surprise that its welcoming natural climate adds a great deal to its welcoming business climate. Beautiful spring and fall seasons give way to a mild winter, and the advent of air conditioning has made the summer a breeze. An environment where you don’t have to worry about mother nature’s wrath is just icing on the cake for a state that looks to continue its economic growth into the second half of the 2010’s.
