The much anticipated report on corruption in DeKalb County by former Attorney General Mike Bowers was released yesterday, much to the dismay of current county CEO Lee May and other commissioners.

The document details a myriad range of abuses of power, ranging from improper granting of government contracts, illegal use of county credit cards, and nepotistic hirings in county offices.  In it, Bowers and special investigator Richard Hyde call for the immediate resignation of May, who was quick to decline in a press conference Wednesday afternoon.

In a hilarious twist of irony, Bowers’ investigation was originally called for by May himself, seeking to end, in his words, the “stench of corruption and distrust” that has plagued DeKalb in recent years.  When May called for a stop to the investigation earlier in the Summer, citing its high cost, Bowers and his team cut their work off and released this report, which even in its unfinished state paints a grim picture of the county’s government.
