While many Republicans nationwide continue to struggle to come to terms with the idea of a Donald J. Trump presidency, elected officials in Georgia have rallied behind the presumptive nominee.

Governor Nathan Deal and U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson and David Perdue were quick to give their endorsements shortly after Texas Senator Ted Cruz dropped out of the race, essentially ceding victory to Trump.  Statewide officials, including Lt. Governor Casey Cagle, Attorney General Sam Olens, and Secretary of State Brian Kemp followed, despite the first two of those having been supporters of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, who has been among the chief ‘Never-Trump’ Republicans.

U.S. Representative Tom Price, long thought of as more of an establishment candidate, has also emerged as one of Trump’s most fervent supporters in Washington D.C.  Said Price in an interview with The New Yorker, “When I talk to people who work closely with Trump, what they tell me is that behind closed doors he’s one of the best listeners they’ve ever worked for or with in their life.”  In May Price organized a statement among House committee chairmen to pledge their support for the presumptive GOP nominee, making him one of the most high-profile Trump supporters in Congress.

Trump is in Atlanta today, first for a big-money fundraiser hosted by Deal and Perdue, and later at a rally at The Fox Theater in midtown at noon.  Expect the typical traffic that accompanies the Donald, along with the protesters that seem to follow him like flies to honey.
