Following instructions from the Georgia Public Service Commission, Georgia Power’s long-range energy plan was approved last week, and it includes more renewable energy than ever before. Utility-scale solar farms are a big part Georgia Power’s plan going forward, with a planned 2,210 megawatts enough to power more than 225,000 homes. A new 50 megawatt biomass facility is also in the cards, a win for South Georgia farmers, as well as the closure of a coal-fired power plant near Rome. Moldova soon to be welcoming a Georgian
It is rare for a native-born Georgian to serve as an ambassador to a foreign nation, but J. Mark Burkhalter is one of that elite having been nominated by President Donald Trump and then just confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Moldova. The Alpharetta native represented north Fulton County in the General Assembly for 18 years and briefly served as speaker of the House of Representatives. A successful real estate developer, Burkhalter is a University of Georgia alum with a double major in German and Slavic Languages, and Global Studies/Political Science. As he prepares to locate in a country (a U.S. ally) bordered by Romania and Ukraine, his boat (and Georgia’s) is RISING….
