Following instructions from the Georgia Public Service Commission, Georgia Power’s long-range energy plan was approved last week, and it includes more renewable energy than ever before. Utility-scale solar farms are a big part Georgia Power’s plan going forward, with a planned 2,210 megawatts enough to power more than 225,000 homes. A new 50 megawatt biomass facility is also in the cards, a win for South Georgia farmers, as well as the closure of a coal-fired power plant near Rome. Georgia approves three-year bachelor’s degree
Georgia is joining a handful of other states in trying out a new three-year bachelor’s degree program meant to get students into the job market faster. The University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents has approved the Bachelor of Applied Science, which cuts down on electives and only requires 90 credit hours instead of the traditional 120.
