According to a 2018 survey by the National Center for Education Statistics, 94% of teachers pay for classroom supplies using their own money. That is a staggering number considering that teachers are so often underpaid and underappreciated to begin with. Here in Georgia grocery store chain Kroger is doing their part to help out, hosting its annual teacher supply giveaway this month across the state. In Metro Atlanta, Macon, and Augusta, participating teachers received up to $30 worth of school supplies for use in the classroom when school starts back up later this summer. Moldova soon to be welcoming a Georgian
It is rare for a native-born Georgian to serve as an ambassador to a foreign nation, but J. Mark Burkhalter is one of that elite having been nominated by President Donald Trump and then just confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Moldova. The Alpharetta native represented north Fulton County in the General Assembly for 18 years and briefly served as speaker of the House of Representatives. A successful real estate developer, Burkhalter is a University of Georgia alum with a double major in German and Slavic Languages, and Global Studies/Political Science. As he prepares to locate in a country (a U.S. ally) bordered by Romania and Ukraine, his boat (and Georgia’s) is RISING….
