Fitzgerald, in South Georgia, is known for its chickens, and its about to get a really big one. Mayor Jim Puckett this week told reporters that the town is planning to spend more than $150,000 on a chicken-shaped topiary that at 62 feet tall will be the largest in the world. Constructed by the aptly named Topiary Joe, the steel-framed structure will be filled with growing plants and will unseat Marietta’s famed Big Chicken as the largest fowl in the state – if not the world. Georgia approves three-year bachelor’s degree
Georgia is joining a handful of other states in trying out a new three-year bachelor’s degree program meant to get students into the job market faster. The University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents has approved the Bachelor of Applied Science, which cuts down on electives and only requires 90 credit hours instead of the traditional 120.
