Fitzgerald, in South Georgia, is known for its chickens, and its about to get a really big one.  Mayor Jim Puckett this week told reporters that the town is planning to spend more than $150,000 on a chicken-shaped topiary that at 62 feet tall will be the largest in the world.  Constructed by the aptly named Topiary Joe, the steel-framed structure will be filled with growing plants and will unseat Marietta’s famed Big Chicken as the largest fowl in the state – if not the world.  Is a giant chicken the smartest use of tax dollars?  That’s for the reader to decide – but its presence in Fitzgerald will have the city’s stature RISING…
