Republican Bill Yearta on Tuesday night won the runoff election for the Albany-based HD 152, which was vacated in September by former Rep. Ed Rynders, who stepped down citing health concerns. Yearta, the former mayor of Sylvester, defeated Jim Quinn by just 115 votes after the pair emerged from a four-candidate special election in November. Rynders, the former chairman of the influential House Governmental Affairs Committee, had served in the House since 2003. Georgia approves three-year bachelor’s degree
Georgia is joining a handful of other states in trying out a new three-year bachelor’s degree program meant to get students into the job market faster. The University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents has approved the Bachelor of Applied Science, which cuts down on electives and only requires 90 credit hours instead of the traditional 120.
