The Marietta High School football team won the state 7A championship Saturday night over powerhouse Lowndes High School, breaking a 52 year drought. As a result of winning the championship, along with a top 10 national ranking, Marietta is the only football team in Georgia to be selected to play at the Geico State Champions Bowl Series in Las Vegas next weekend. Moldova soon to be welcoming a Georgian
It is rare for a native-born Georgian to serve as an ambassador to a foreign nation, but J. Mark Burkhalter is one of that elite having been nominated by President Donald Trump and then just confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Moldova. The Alpharetta native represented north Fulton County in the General Assembly for 18 years and briefly served as speaker of the House of Representatives. A successful real estate developer, Burkhalter is a University of Georgia alum with a double major in German and Slavic Languages, and Global Studies/Political Science. As he prepares to locate in a country (a U.S. ally) bordered by Romania and Ukraine, his boat (and Georgia’s) is RISING….
