The University System of Georgia Board of Regents approved the establishment of the John H. “Johnny” Isakson Chair for Parkinson’s Research at the University of Georgia. The university has already raised $1.6 million to establish the chair, which will fund research and help develop treatments for Parkinson’s Disease, which Isakson was diagnosed with in 2015 and which caused him to retire from the U.S. Senate last year. Moldova soon to be welcoming a Georgian
It is rare for a native-born Georgian to serve as an ambassador to a foreign nation, but J. Mark Burkhalter is one of that elite having been nominated by President Donald Trump and then just confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Moldova. The Alpharetta native represented north Fulton County in the General Assembly for 18 years and briefly served as speaker of the House of Representatives. A successful real estate developer, Burkhalter is a University of Georgia alum with a double major in German and Slavic Languages, and Global Studies/Political Science. As he prepares to locate in a country (a U.S. ally) bordered by Romania and Ukraine, his boat (and Georgia’s) is RISING….
