District Judge Steve C. Jones on Monday struck down Georgia’s HB 481, the Living Infants Fairness and Equality (LIFE) Act, an anti-abortion bill that was passed by the legislature and signed by Gov. Brian Kemp last year. A lawsuit from the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia called the law unconstitutional, and the case wound its way through the courts until Jones’ ruling. For now the preceding abortion laws, which allow abortions through 20 weeks of gestation, remain in effect.
