Georgia Power and Georgia Tech on Thursday celebrated the opening of their 1.4 MW microgrid project in Tech Square in Midtown Atlanta. A microgrid is a self-contained power system located within the facility it powers, which must contain generation resources, storage systems and energy management systems. Obviously such a project requires a hi-tech host with well-trained operators, something that Georgia Tech can provide. The school will use the microgrid as a “living laboratory” in addition to being a power source, offering students and Georgia Power officials alike insight as to how small-scale energy management systems operate within the larger grid. Atlanta paid deadbeat $910,00 for virtually no work
It’s outrageous that Atlanta taxpayers paid Foris Webb $910,000 for two years even though he produced little record any “work.” After reviewing invoices and emails, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution found he was supposed to be overseeing a petition calling for a vote on the Atlanta police/fire training center. Yet by the time the “consulting contract” was discovered and payments were being made, the center had opened, the referendum never occurred and petition signatures were forgotten.
