Georgia Power and Georgia Tech on Thursday celebrated the opening of their 1.4 MW microgrid project in Tech Square in Midtown Atlanta.  A microgrid is a self-contained power system located within the facility it powers, which must contain generation resources, storage systems and energy management systems.  Obviously such a project requires a hi-tech host with well-trained operators, something that Georgia Tech can provide.  The school will use the microgrid as a “living laboratory” in addition to being a power source, offering students and Georgia Power officials alike insight as to how small-scale energy management systems operate within the larger grid.  The installation and partnership have both parties RISING…
