Gov. Brian Kemp has announced that the General Assembly will meet Nov. 3, with a session that will probably last until the week of Thanksgiving, to begin a special session to redraw Georgia’s congressional, state legislative and local electoral districts. The lawmakers will be drawing and approving the district boundaries to account for population shifts over the past decade as reflected in the U.S. Census. With Republicans holding the governorship and dominating in the legislature, they will draw maps to create new and friendly Republican districts to recoup losses to Democrats in recent years. Georgia approves three-year bachelor’s degree
Georgia is joining a handful of other states in trying out a new three-year bachelor’s degree program meant to get students into the job market faster. The University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents has approved the Bachelor of Applied Science, which cuts down on electives and only requires 90 credit hours instead of the traditional 120.
