The first major building project outside Fort Gordon’s new Gate Six is in the planning stages. An office/commercial complex dubbed Gate 6 Center covers more than 41 acres, and much of that is parking for three four-story buildings and a five-story building that includes a restaurant. And maybe there’ll be a hotel. It’s a needed development for Columbia County, which is adjusting to a growing and continuing stream of visiting workers and residents employed by defense contractors at the fort’s U.S. Army Cyber Command. The proliferation of Flock Safety license plate readers has been praised by law enforcement officials, and met with suspicion by critics.
