Back in 2014 Clayton County residents voted in favor of a 1% sales tax hike in order to join MARTA, with the promise that the agency would extend heavy rail south into the county. By 2020 those plans were approved – but not for long. The following year the proposal for heavy rail was abandoned, with officials citing rising costs.
