As we near the end of the calendar year we’re beginning to see some interesting statistics roll in, among them CSPAN’s annual End of Year Congress Stats. Notable among those is ‘Who has spoken the greatest number of days on the floor of Congress?’ The winner is Texas Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, speaking on 141 different days in 2022 – but close behind is south Georgia’s own Rep. Buddy Carter, who took to the House floor 134 times this year. Clearly engaged and involved in his work in D.C. – and not taking much time off – Carter’s ship in representing his constituents and the whole state is RISING…
Moldova soon to be welcoming a Georgian
It is rare for a native-born Georgian to serve as an ambassador to a foreign nation, but J. Mark Burkhalter is one of that elite having been nominated by President Donald Trump and then just confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Moldova. The Alpharetta native represented north Fulton County in the General Assembly for 18 years and briefly served as speaker of the House of Representatives. A successful real estate developer, Burkhalter is a University of Georgia alum with a double major in German and Slavic Languages, and Global Studies/Political Science. As he prepares to locate in a country (a U.S. ally) bordered by Romania and Ukraine, his boat (and Georgia’s) is RISING….
