Chris Chammoun of the Georgia Center of Innovation, a strategic arm of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, talks about controlled environment agriculture and what its rapid growth means to the state. Greenhouse, vertical, or even shipping container farms give farmers an innovative avenue to growing crops year-round, without a need to worry about the weather. They give local farmers an opportunity to grow new crops – like leafy greens such as lettuce – that historically struggle to grow in Georgia.
