As Georgia decisionmakers prepare to work on new legislative maps ahead of the special redistricting session that will begin tomorrow, lawmakers are holding their breath – especially in the state House.  U.S. District Judge Steve Jones has called for five new majority-Black House districts around Atlanta and Macon, meaning that it is likely some incumbent legislators will be drawn into the same district and be forced to duke out a campaign.  Another twist – Georgia law states that legislators must live in their district for one year prior to running, and since the next election is November 5, 2024 that deadline is passed, meaning lawmakers in newly drawn districts won’t be able to swap.  Waiting to see the first drafts of the new maps, incumbents in Atlanta and Macon are DRIFTING…
