Alpha Phi Alpha, a historically Black fraternity known for pushing civil rights causes, has filed objections to Georgia’s newly redrawn political maps which were just recently approved by Gov. Brian Kemp. The complaint alleges that the new maps do not “address the vote dilution found by this court after trial. They instead perpetuate it,” U.S. District Judge Steve Jones will have the final say when he holds a hearing over the new maps on December 20th. Should he find that they do not meet his specifications regarding the need for a majority-Black congressional district and several new majority-Black legislative districts, he could appoint a special master to redraw the state’s political maps. Atlanta snubbed for ’28 DNC Convention
The City of Atlanta and the Georgia Democratic Party made a strong push to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, but fell short once again when it was announced that Boston, Denver and Philadelphia are the three finalists.
