City of Atlanta officials have found an innovative way to help house homeless Atlantans this holiday season – using refurbished shipping containers to create rapid-affordable housing in downtown. The containers were donated by the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Department and were once used as overflow facilities for Macon hospitals during the pandemic. The units include beds, kitchenettes, and on-suite bathrooms, providing a way for down on their luck Georgians to get out of the cold and hopefully back on their feet. The City of Atlanta and the Georgia Democratic Party made a strong push to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, but fell short once again when it was announced that Boston, Denver and Philadelphia are the three finalists.
