As U.S. Rep. Lucy McBath, D-GA, swaps back to the newly redrawn 6th Congressional District later this year, she will face primary competition from a rising Democrat star. The new 6th District includes a broad swathe of the west side of metro Atlanta, including chunks of Fulton County, south Cobb, eastern Douglas County, and northern Fayette County. While McBath and her $1 million campaign war chest will be an early favorite, she is joined by Cobb Co. Jerica Richardson, who was recently drawn out of her commission seat. Richardson was eying running for one of the new congressional seats created by the latest round of redistricting, and wasn’t deterred when it turned out McBath planned on bouncing back to the 6th District as her current 7th District seat became much more favorable to Republicans.
