Efforts by city of Atlanta leaders and law enforcement officials over the past year paid off as the city saw homicides drop 21% in 2023, (although car thefts and shoplifting numbers were up). Mayor Andre Dickens has made public safety a top priority, and he implemented several programs that contributed to the drop. His “Year of the Youth” effort looked to keep at-risk youth off the streets, while ‘Operation Heatwave’ sent additional officers to patrol dangerous hotspots. Hopefully the trend continues in 2024. Atlanta snubbed for ’28 DNC Convention
The City of Atlanta and the Georgia Democratic Party made a strong push to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, but fell short once again when it was announced that Boston, Denver and Philadelphia are the three finalists.
