Efforts by city of Atlanta leaders and law enforcement officials over the past year paid off as the city saw homicides drop 21% in 2023, (although car thefts and shoplifting numbers were up).  Mayor Andre Dickens has made public safety a top priority, and he implemented several programs that contributed to the drop.  His “Year of the Youth” effort looked to keep at-risk youth off the streets, while ‘Operation Heatwave’ sent additional officers to patrol dangerous hotspots.  Hopefully the trend continues in 2024.  RISING…
