Unbeknownst to many, Fort Moore, (formerly Fort Benning) outside Columbus boasts one of the largest collections of tanks and other military machines in the nation. The U.S. Army Armor & Cavalry Collection includes over 200 pieces going back all the way to WWI, including tanks from all over the world, a helicopter, and other vehicles.  The machines are meticulously maintained and restored by the base’s curator and experienced volunteers, but the exhibit is not often open to the public, instead being used as a teaching collection.  However it is open for public visitation a few times per year, the next being April 27-28.  Other dates and info. about the collection can be found HERE
