Georgia’s state shrimp?

Flying under the radar on a busy Crossover Day at the Georgia Capitol was HB 1341, which seeks to designate the white shrimp as the official state crustacean.  The bill passed unanimously, with notable backing from Speaker Jon Burns.  White shrimp comprise a whopping 80% of the total value of seafood caught off Georgia’s coast, and lawmakers hope the recognition will give the industry a boost as it faces international competition.  The bill’s odds of sailing through the Senate as well are RISING…
