With qualifying beginning this week, Cobb County has been thrown into disarray when the County Commission decided to use their own maps for primary qualifying, despite the fact that a judge had already ruled they must use the maps drawn by the General Assembly. Commissioners pointed to a ‘home rule’ exemption, despite the fact that a Cobb Superior Court Judge ruled it unconstitutional. The case was appealed and is awaiting a hearing before the Georgia Supreme Court next month. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger was incensed at the announcement, saying it “jeopardizes candidate qualifying and puts Cobb County voters at risk for disenfranchisement.” The move will undoubtedly lead to more lawsuits and elections headaches for Cobb voters. Atlanta snubbed for ’28 DNC Convention
The City of Atlanta and the Georgia Democratic Party made a strong push to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, but fell short once again when it was announced that Boston, Denver and Philadelphia are the three finalists.
