Iconic Atlanta fast food restaurant The Varsity opened its seventh stand-alone location some 70 miles to the north – in Rome, Georgia. The legendary chain has been open since 1928, with its Midtown Atlanta location near Georgia Tech serving more than 30,000 guests on busy fall football Saturdays. “The World’s Largest Drive-in Restaurant” has other locations in Cartersville, Kennesaw, and Norcross, among others, with the newest outpost in Rome opening Monday. Its line quickly looped around the block as locals sought to get a taste of the chili cheese dogs and frosted oranges that have been an Atlanta staple for close to 100 years.
