Atlanta traffic deaths surpass homicides
A new report from Propel ATL shows that the city of Atlanta saw more traffic-related deaths than homicides last year. In 2024 Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties, Atlanta’s ‘inner ring,’ saw 410 homicides, but 425 traffic fatalities. The group says that while both totals are tragic, traffic issues are easier to solve. With heavy congestion and lagging infrastructure, Atlanta officials are working to hurry up safe streets projects ahead of next year’s World Cup, but many still lag behind, and the city’s pedestrian fatalities draw the most alarm.
