Mike Dugan, a former state Senate Majority Leader running in tomorrow’s U.S. 3rd Congressional District Republican runoff against former President Donald Trump-endorsed Brian Jack, is in hot water for some soft-on-illegal immigration positions. By contrast, Jack— who almost won the May 21st GOP primary– has taken tough illegal immigration stances including a massive deportation program.

Jack supporters in recent days are emphasizing that, five days after the murder of nursing student Laken Riley in Athens by an illegal alien, Dugan co-sponsored legislation by liberal Democrat Sen. Kim Jackson seeking to expand discounted in-state tuition prices to illegal aliens. Such a benefit, they point out, would have also gone to Jose Antonio Ibarra, the illegal alien and “humanitarian parolee” who allegedly brutally murdered Riley after dragging her body to a secluded area. The U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary confirmed in April, “According to DHS, Jose Antonio Ibarra was granted ‘parole due to detention capacity at the Central Processing Center in El Paso, Texas.” The committee said, “By law, immigration parole is only to be granted at the discretion of the DHS Secretary on a case-by-case basis, in instances of “urgent humanitarian reason or significant public benefit.”

Bottom line: the legislation backed by Dugan would’ve given Ibarra special privileges. And the term “humanitarian parolee” is the same legalese that was used to justify the release of Ibarra.

By the way, James Magazine Online (formerly InsiderAdvantage Georgia) has previously reported on Republican and Democrats like Dugan and Jackson pushing to grant in-state tuition to illegal aliens for all 26 universities and colleges within the University System of Georgia for years.

Jack is opposed to granting in-state tuition to illegal aliens— including to so-called “humanitarian parolees.”

The Republican-dominated 3rd District in west-central Georgia stretches from Paulding and Polk counties south to Columbus.
