It makes sense that the world’s busiest airport and the area it calls home would be on the cutting edge of personal transit – and it soon will be thanks to a project announced by the ATL Airport Community Improvement Districts.  Atlanta Personal Rapid Transit Solutions and Glydways will build out a demonstration pilot of a new autonomous vehicle program linking College Park’s Gateway Center Arena to the ATL SkyTrain and the Georgia International Convention Center.  The transit system features automated vehicles that pick up passengers along dedicated guideways, offering the ‘last mile’ connectivity that urban planners are constantly searching for.  The half-mile guideway will be funded by MARTA and APRTS, installing Glydways’ futuristic personal rapid transit system that will function similarly to a driverless taxi or Uber – but at only public transit cost to customers.
