Savannah Mayor Van Johnson is a prominent Democrat who many consider a potential future candidate for statewide office. But he is taking aim at a member of his own party, Chatham District Attorney Shalena Cook Jones, and says he may even endorse her Republican challenger. The dispute stems from Jones dismissing five indicted murder cases, possibly because they involved former Savannah police detectives fired for lying. The City of Atlanta and the Georgia Democratic Party made a strong push to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, but fell short once again when it was announced that Boston, Denver and Philadelphia are the three finalists.
