Lamar County, south of Atlanta, has fewer than 20,000 residents. But local officials hope to land one of the largest industrial projects in the state – a whopping 19 million-square-foot mixed use industrial park, dubbed Legacy 75 Trade Center. The proposal is one of several popping up along I-75 between Macon and Atlanta, a perfect location for ease getting in and out of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. If approved, the project could nearly triple the county’s tax revenue collections. The Lamar County Board of Commissioners will have to approve the plans, with some pushback expected from rural landowners unsure about the impact of a project of this magnitude. But supporters say the project would sit on less than 1% of the county’s area, providing a huge tax boost while keeping its rural feel intact.
