For the first time in Georgia political history, a self-admitted socialist running as a Democrat has a shot at winning a state House of Representatives seat in Smyrna-based District 42 in Cobb County. The only thing standing between Gabriel Sanchez winning the November general election is Republican opponent Diane Jackson.
“I’m speaking to Democrats, Republicans and Independents in Cobb County,” Jackson says in a media release. “In this crucial race, we need to step away from party lines and focus on what’s right for Smyrna and Georgia – and it’s not socialist and anti-freedom ideologies.”
She further declares, “This an alarming race against self-proclaimed radical socialist Gabriel Sanchez. It’s shocking that moderate Democrats lost their preferred candidate in their May primary. Now is the time to decide what kind of community we want to live in. The question is, are Georgia Democrats ready for an anti-freedom, anti-law enforcement socialist?”
“My opponent is a 27-year-old activist and a proud member of the Democratic Socialists of America,” Jackson emphasizes. “He led harsh, violent protests in the ‘Stop Cop City’ movement against an Atlanta police training facility and wants to dynamite our successful private enterprise system that is the engine that makes this country and state great.”
Sanchez proudly admits he’s a member of the Democratic Socialists of America and says he adheres to its Marxist philosophy. For example, the Democratic Socialists platform says, “In overcoming the old, barbaric order of capitalism, the working class will not only liberate itself from its own shackles, but all of humanity from the parasitic death-drive of capitalism.”
Jackson counters, “If we want Georgia to continue to be the number one state in which to do business, we need someone in our state Legislature that will help ensure that this happens. And that’s not a socialist.”
According to his website, Sanchez claims our country is “systematically racist” against black and brown people, and especially supports giving Georgia’s illegal immigrants driver’s licenses and, ultimately, U.S. citizenship. Jackson, on the other hand, believes in a capitalistic opportunity society for everyone while supporting enforcement of state and federal laws against illegal immigration.
In addition, Jackson’s media release says she has a firm grip on the realities of finance: “In her 30-plus years as a corporate executive and a small business owner, I have handled million-dollar budgets for global clients, and I can tell you that you don’t succeed in the real world without accounting for every penny.” In countering street activist Sanchez’s anti-police and tax-and-spend policies, the Republican further declares she’s “focused on public safety, providing inflation relief to families, lower taxes and empowering parents with educational options for their children.”
