U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson yesterday appointed U.S. Rep. Brian Jack, R-Ga., to be on the powerful Rules Committee. The newly elected Peachtree City resident will be serving on what is commonly known as “The Speaker’s Committee” because it is the mechanism the speaker uses to maintain control of the House Floor. Jack also served during President Donald Trump’s first term as his White House political director, and he remains very close to his former boss. Atlanta Beltline light rail back on the menu?
Many Atlantans were dismayed when Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly tabled the idea of light rail along the Atlanta Beltline, the city’s wildly popular and successful pedestrian path. After all, light rail was a core part of the loop’s original vision, meant to connect the city all around its (eventual) 22-mile loop. But now the Atlanta City Council is pushing back, with 11 councilmembers, led by Atlanta City Councilwoman Kelsea Bond signing onto a resolution signaling support for the idea.
