The Savannah Bananas might be the newest craze in baseball, but their historic home – Grayson Stadium – is on the cusp of its 100th anniversary. And going into its 99th season the ballpark has received a major upgrade in the form of a $3 million facelift that includes a turf field, LED lights, additional bleachers and a new hi-def video board. The upgrades, paid for largely by a 1-cent sales tax, came just in time for opening weekend for the Bananas, who welcomed in more than 15,000 fans across the home stand. “For us to invest millions of dollars in here and put in so much love and care, we hope it’s kind of a love letter to Savannah,” said team owner Jesse Cole.
