Bringing manufacturing back stateside has been a political rallying cry for candidates on both sides of the aisle, and in the city of Pendergrass, in Jackson County, we’re seeing some tangible results. Siemens Corp., the U.S. subsidiary of the German manufacturing giant bearing its name, announced plans to build a massive, $185 million plant in Pendergrass where it will produce electrical components. The plant is expected to create a whopping 1,400 jobs, making it one of the biggest economic development projects of the year. It also further strengthens Georgia’s economic ties to Germany – the state’s fourth biggest trading partner – where companies like Mercedes-Benz and Porsche already have their North American headquarters.
