State Rep. Rick Townsend, R-Brunswick, chairman of the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Youth Exposure to Kratom and Retail-Available Substances, is calling for greater consumer protections following a recent University of Florida (UF) College of Pharmacy study finding that many commercially available kratom-derived products are inaccurately labeled. This also follows the first meeting of the committee where members heard from several clinical and medical professionals, scholars and university faculty.

Christopher McCurdy, Ph.D., associate dean for faculty development in the UF College of Pharmacy, who contributed to the UF study, was one of the experts testifying in front of the special committee.
