The race to replace Tom Price in Georgia’s 6th District clearly stole the headlines on Wednesday morning, but there were a handful of other local races on the ballot across Metro Atlanta.
In the newly formed city of Stonecrest three City Council members were elected to join Mayor Jason Lary as the inaugural government for the South DeKalb city. Rob Turner, George Turner Jr., and Diane Daniels Adoma each emerged from extremely low turnout races to win their runoff elections.
Another new city, South Fulton, elected their first Mayor along with a full seven city councilmembers. Former Fulton County commissioner Bill Edwards became the city’s first Mayor, defeating Benny Crane by nearly 20 points. Meanwhile the city’s first city council was put together via a series of runoffs, as seen below.

Elsewhere in the Atlanta Metro, Roswell saw Lori Henry win a city council seat over Marie Willsey, while over in Johns Creek Chris Coughlin defeated John Patrick Flores. Both of those races saw relatively high turnouts for mid-spring special election runoffs, drawing close to 20,000 voters each.
