Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens‘ message Monday was crystal clear; “If you pull a gun in this town, you are going to jail,” he told members of the Atlanta City Council’s public safety committee. Dickens was there to give an update on the city’s efforts to increase public safety, but another violent weekend shows it has a long way to go. There were four more murders in the city over the weekend, including six people being shot (with two dead) at a southwest Atlanta park. City officials have pleaded with the public to not resolve disputes with gunfire, but those pleas seem to remain unheeded. Georgia approves three-year bachelor’s degree
Georgia is joining a handful of other states in trying out a new three-year bachelor’s degree program meant to get students into the job market faster. The University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents has approved the Bachelor of Applied Science, which cuts down on electives and only requires 90 credit hours instead of the traditional 120.
