Dems retain control in Athens

Following the murder of college student Laken Riley on the UGA campus earlier this year, many saw this week’s elections in Athens, Georgia, as a referendum on crime and illegal immigration. But a pair of liberal county commission members easily won reelection over conservative challengers, as Commissioners Melissa Link and Carol Myers each won by about 40%.
