Atlanta’s largest suburban counties, Cobb and Gwinnett, have over and over rejected sales tax hikes that sought to expand public transit. Both counties have swung to the left in recent election cycles though, and with new referendums on the ballot this year some think they might actually succeed. A key difference in 2024 – neither referendum includes heavy rail expansion or MARTA, but instead rely more on expanding existing county transit systems and adding more bus rapid transit. Atlanta snubbed for ’28 DNC Convention
The City of Atlanta and the Georgia Democratic Party made a strong push to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, but fell short once again when it was announced that Boston, Denver and Philadelphia are the three finalists. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens blasted the decision, accusing the DNC of “abandoning Atlanta, abandoning the South, and once again abandoning Black voters.” The snub has Georgia Dems SINKING…
