Breaking: Clayton County Victor Hill has been charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct for his role in the shooting of Gwenevere McCord. He turned himself in to Gwinnett County Police at around 8:00 on Wednesday evening.
Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill, who was involved in the ‘accidental’ shooting of ‘acquaintance’ Gwenevere McCord on Sunday, could face charges by the end of the week. Said Gwinnett District Attorney Danny Porter, “I don’t expect that he’ll come in and give a statement to police. I’ve spoken to his attorneys today (Tuesday) and I don’t anticipate they’re going to bring him in for a statement.”
According to the 911 tape, Hill was practicing police tactics when he shot McCord once in the torso while in a model home in Lawrenceville. She remains in critical condition at the Gwinnett Medical Center. The pair were the only people inside the house at the time of the shooting, and unless McCord wakes up, we may never know the full story.
Hill issued this public statement Tuesday: “As reported, on May 3, 2015, I was involved in a tragic and heartbreaking accident. Gwenevere McCord, who is very dear to me, was critically injured in this accident. Please understand that for the past 48 hours, I have been entirely focused on Gwenevere and her family. I will continue to pray unceasingly for her recovery. I ask you all to please pray for Gwenevere and her family throughout this most difficult time.”
With Hill unwilling to give an official statement to the Gwinnett Police, charges appear likely. Without testimony from McCord though, expect to see something in the range of a misdemeanor Reckless Conduct charge. Should the victim pass away, charges could be increased to felony Involuntary Manslaughter, or with more details, even Murder.
