Georgia Ports preparing for citrus imports, cold chain shippers

The Georgia Ports Authority is preparing for a growing trade in citrus and other chilled imports by adding ocean carrier routes and terminal services to support cold chain logistics. Officials are expecting the season’s first arrivals of citrus from South Africa, South America and other markets to cross the Port of Savannah’s docks in May and June.

Georgia congresswoman sends demand letter to Trump

U.S. Rep. Nikema Williams, D-GA, led a contingent of her Democratic colleagues – including two from the Georgia delegation – in writing a letter to President Donald Trump condemning his Administration’s reported policy change prohibiting federal employees from using paid administrative leave to vote or serve as non-partisan poll workers and demand he reverse the policy.

New Georgia law aims to tackle an alarming absentee rate

A slew of new laws took effect in Georgia on July 1st, one of which is an important one aimed at tackling the concerning rate of student absenteeism. It is Senate Bill 123 which seeks to promote more consistent school attendance across the state through early intervention and expanded support systems.

Lending firm collapse shocks Newnan & Georgia

Newnan-based First Liberty Building and Loan, a private lending firm operated by the city’s Frost family, has experienced a shocking collapse. Late last week it suspended all payments to investors as it cooperates with investigations by the FBI and state authorities to assess the damage to its clients who are experiencing severe financial losses as the company sorts out its affairs.

Another high-profile lawmaker joins race for lt. governor

Republican Greg Dolezal entered the crowded race last week, touting himself as “the one who gets it done.” He joins colleagues Blake Tillery, Steve Gooch, John Kennedy and Rep. Atlanta snubbed for ’28 DNC Convention

The City of Atlanta and the Georgia Democratic Party made a strong push to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, but fell short once again when it was announced that Boston, Denver and Philadelphia are the three finalists.  Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens blasted the decision, accusing the DNC of “abandoning Atlanta, abandoning the South, and once again abandoning Black voters.”  The snub has Georgia Dems SINKING…
