House passes “historic” early literacy, education bills

Tuesday was billed as ‘Education Day’ in the House Chamber. State Representatives passed a “historic” package of early literacy and education bills, marking a major milestone in strengthening educational opportunities for Georgia’s children, most notably House Bill 1193, the Georgia Early Literacy Act of 2026, according to House Speaker Jon Burns, R-Newington.

Several prominent Democratic Party consultants, state legislators and possible candidates met this week in Atlanta for a so-called “NewDEAL Ideas Summit.” According to a report in the Cobb Voice, “party insiders privately admitted what many Georgians and Republicans already know: the Democratic Party has become increasingly out of touch with the average voter.”

Kemp: New laws will modernize and improve public safety

Gov. Brian Kemp signed six bills into law Thursday that he says will modernize and improve public safety in Georgia. First Lady Marty Kemp, several constitutional officers, members of the Georgia General Assembly, and law enforcement officers, all joined Kemp at the bill signing – including one that was a priority bill for the governor.

My High School Civics Class

In my Athens high school civics class back in the day we learned about our Declaration of Independence, our U.S. Constitution and its Bill of Rights and our form of government. We studied Thomas Jefferson’s statement in the July 4 ,1776 Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Atlanta snubbed for ’28 DNC Convention

The City of Atlanta and the Georgia Democratic Party made a strong push to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, but fell short once again when it was announced that Boston, Denver and Philadelphia are the three finalists.  Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens blasted the decision, accusing the DNC of “abandoning Atlanta, abandoning the South, and once again abandoning Black voters.”  The snub has Georgia Dems SINKING…
